Synopsis:

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom. When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money. The film is inspired by historical events. Some scenes, characters and dialogue have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes.

It was a interesting story about the kidnapping of an oil prince. The most interesting portion of the movie, however, was the insight into J. Paul Getty. I'm not sure how his personality was able to overshadow the kidnapping of his grandson, but it did. I found myself more shocked by his behavior and platitudes than by the life threatening situation of Paul. It was minimally entertaining.

I thought the movie was beautiful to look at and directed well. The acting was all around fantastic, but the characters left me cold and apathetic in the beginning to what was going on. The locations were stunning and a movie I will definitely want to see again for the interesting plot and strong acting.

Overall I loved the story. And the actors, especially the main captor were great. What really bothered me was the overuse of the 70's film effect. It was too strong. The other thing that was very bad was the extras during the paparazzi scenes were visibly just popping off there camera flashes with their thumbs. The flash units were too new for the period also. In the 1970's there were still photographers using flash bulbs so there could have been a mix of both strobe and flash bulbs.
