Tarrell (Holland) is an admired American painter who lives with his wife, singer Aisha (Day), and their young son, Jermaine. Tarrell’s artwork excavates beauty from the anguish of his youth, keeping past wounds at bay. His path to success is derailed by an unexpected visit from his estranged father, La’Ron (Jelks), a conscience-stricken man desperate to reconcile.
Tarrell’s mother, Joyce (Ellis-Taylor) a pious woman with a profound and joyful spirituality, hopes that Tarrell can open his heart to forgiveness, giving them all another chance at being a family. Tarrell and La’Ron learn that forgetting might be a greater challenge than forgiving in this raw and deeply moving film.

The film was a poignant portrayal of a dysfunctional family's journey toward forgiveness amidst the emotional and physical turmoil caused by the father's cocaine addiction. It depicts a son's resentment towards his father's treatment of him because of his cocaine addiction and a deep love for his adoring mother. A mother who displayed tough love toward her husband despite his addiction.

Beautiful story that captures Titus Kaphar's deeply moving images. Redemption and the power of forgiveness told with lovely cinematography- what an amazing way to capture the juxtaposition of trauma and love. Deeply movIng.
A must see movie!!!! Exhibiting forgiveness has a powerful message for all in it. The funny moments balanced out all the emotional and sensitive moments. I’ll definitely watch this again.
I feel that the moral of the story was to teach us that ultimately forgiveness is the only way we will be successful and able to be productive in our lives. Harboring resentment only makes us weaker and hinders our growth.
This was a really, good movie. It had everything in it. Pain, tears, joy, all the things that make it a good Drama. I would definitely recommend it but get your tissues ready. I love the message of forgiveness too. Beautiful!!

This movie was outstanding. It felt so real to us. It is difficult to forgive when your reality as a child is so hard and painful. However, you cannot go on until you forgive those who hurt you. It is a must see!
