Confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

It was a great movie with many characters that had relevant storylines. Great actors as well!
I thought this movie was a deep introspective on how America views African-American authors. It also was a deep introspective of learning and out of the book community, not being an avid book reader. Comedy that this movie presented in such a good way.
Excellent screenplay...wonderful cast. Exciting dialog with the director at the screening Q&A.
The movie was refreshing. The trailer really didn’t do it justice. I wish I could have stayed for all of the director’s commentary. I liked the balance between humor and seriousness. I also liked how there was an interaction between the author and the characters he was writing. I loved the irony of the movie.
Funny and thought provoking!
10s Across The Board!!! This movie had me from beginning to end. Will be seeing again when it drops in December!\r\rThank you & RIGHT ON, Cord!! Love ya, brother!!
One of the best films I’ve seen in a while! I was able to relate to so many of the characters stories. Lorraine’s character was my absolute favorite. I shed tears watching her story develop from what I thought would be insignificant to a powerful ending. I will be seeing the film again when it releases.

I love the concept of this story a lot! And I love the interview with the director Cord after the screening, America needs more films like this one!
