In 1755, the impoverished Captain Ludvig von Kahlen sets out to conquer the harsh, uninhabitable Danish heath with a seemingly impossible goal: to build a colony in the name of the King, in exchange for a royal title. The heath meant certain death – a godforsaken place haunted by ravenous wolves, highwaymen, and a brutal and unforgiving nature. The sole ruler of the area, the merciless Frederik de Schinkel, believes this land belongs to him and does everything in his power to drive the captain away.

Walked into this one with an open mind as normally not a big fan of foreign films, especially period ones. Wow did I enjoy this one though. The story moves at a great pace, and whenever you feel like its insurmountable it keeps going. Acting was heartfelt, and very well done. One of the best movies i've watched in recent times.
Direction, script, screenplay, cinematography, sound editing, and ensemble cast were all topnotch. Mikkelsen's face deserves an Oscar for his portrayal of Captain Khalen. Despite being a man of few words, every stare and every subtle facial motion carries his burden as we, the audience, feel all of his pains and all of his losses, which make the small victories feel so gratifying.
Beautiful cinematography, thrilling plot and excellent story
It was an awesome movie, better than I had expected. Great acting and scenery!
Great movie with an awesome cast. The acting, especially from Mads Mikkelsen, was fantastic!
Gripping. Gorgeous soundtrack.
Intense and brutal film with excellent acting that shows the hardships of life in the 1700s.
