Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic - content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

It is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. Up to date modern but also a timeless classic. Doesn’t miss a beat or leave me a single thing to criticize. most uplifting movie I’ve seen in quite a while. Tilda & Idris have such great chemistry. Oscar time for sure!!\r\r
Epic and at the same time intimate Three Thousand Years Of Longing weaves a beautiful story with a satisfying conclusion. If you can see it in a movie theatre you won't be disappointed.
A wonderful thought provoking, philosophical story telling, uniquely entwined with science and fantasy.
Great
Beautiful\r A great film for the big people who love fairytales and fantasy and storytelling. \r\rSo many layers!!! Loved it feom start to finish. Beautifully shot. Fabulous actors of course. \rIt felt upliftimg to watch!\rThank you George , for this masterful storytelling.
I like movies with strong stories and this had it. I'm not a action movie fan. Enjoyed the acting, the story, the effects were just enough to enhance the story but not take it over.
I really love the story. It's really unique.
