Fifteen years before Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat, a full decade before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned separate-but-equal legislation, Pauli Murray was already knee-deep fighting for social justice. A pioneering attorney, activist, priest and dedicated memoirist, Murray shaped landmark litigation—and consciousness— around race and gender equity. As an African American youth raised in the segregated South— who was also wrestling with broader notions of gender identity—Pauli understood, intrinsically, what it was to exist beyond previously accepted categories and cultural norms. Both Pauli’s personal path and tireless advocacy foreshadowed some of the most politically consequential issues of our time.

Well constructed story of an extraordinary life. Good use of interviews including Pauli Murray's own words. I was unfamiliar with them before seeing this. I imagine one familiar with them would be well pleased as well.\rLiked Rosetta Tharpe over credits
Why have we never heard of them??!
In a word - AMAZING! I had little knowledge of Pauli Murray or her accomplishments. My educational knowledge has increased by leaps and my borders increased. Thank you to all who made this film possible, including the Denton Black Film Festival for sharing this screening opportunity.
A good history lesson, inspiring, heartbreaking.
Awesome documentary! Very informative and interesting. So thankful that you unveiled this documentary.
Well documented, thorough and insightful. A highly accomplished woman, with unflinching bravery and conviction to right wrongs, matching her desire to bring about positive change. Amazing she is not a household name, with statues erected applauding her heroism!
Such an important person and story! I hope it helps continue to bridge gaps in understanding around social awareness and how human rights are truly interconnected. Pauli was a champion for equal rights for everyone.
