Synopsis:

In this coming-of-age drama, a reclusive teenage musical prodigy (Khalil Everage) forms an unlikely friendship with a down-on-his-luck high school security guard (Anthony Anderson). United by their mutual love of hip hop, they try to free each other from the demons of their past and break into the city's music scene. Directed by Chris Robinson (ATL, “The New Edition Story”), BEATS features Everage in his feature film debut and co-stars Uzo Aduba and Emayatzy Corinealdi. BEATS is the ultimate ode to Chicago's South Side, and its long history of creating music that forms the city's beating heart.

The meaning was inspiring how one person can take the time to coach a young person in to discovering his talents and potential. The kid was in such a dark place and music bought him light. Beats were great. Anderson and boy show deep bond even bejond the movie. Sound in theatre was muffled. Movie great.

Nice soundtrack, excellent photography, nice outdoors scenes of the beautiful Chicago...

Good, but first scene was too graphic. One could say realistic and the ending perfect. I didn't understand the young man's English also in that walking scene, then he was phenomenal! Super acting and story overall! The second thing bothered me, though realistic you say in Chicago, was how the older man went into the young man's room and kept appearing at his window. Those scenes were uncomfortable

Good director though the story had some lapse.
