Okay, but there was never an explanation about the girl that was Miss Everdeen's assistant....how did she come to be in that position, who is she, etc. Also, what became of the neighbor who shot the Sargent at the end of the movie? What became of his property? The ending was predictable and simplistic. Finally, what is the "Madding" connection?

Poor character development. Plot was weak. I think it was a poor adaptation of the book.
