I think this movie was a pretty good representation of the book, with it's balance of both the good and the bad in the author's childhood. However, I feel it "glossed over" the abuse she and her siblings experienced at the hands of their parents, and the ending excused the parents' behaviour in an a way that completely minimized the effects of child abuse on the children.

Superb acting. You were so drawn into the characters. Experienced a range of emotions toward the father but you loved him regardless. Loved the book, loved the movie.
