Very stylish, but the narrative could have used work. Incredible audio/visual experience.

Visually and aurally stunning, this is a challenging exploration of how society worships beauty and youth and, to a lesser extent, how the powerful (mostly men) control everything. Every shot, line of dialogue, camera movement, color, and lighting choice seems to have been carefully chosen. Personally, I was repulsed by the gore and I'm not sure if it's just there to shock, like eating dog crap in Pink Flamingos, or if it's a brave representation of how we literally eat our young, here. I would recommend this to a short list of friends but most of them would be like the lady I walked behind to the parking lot. She said to her friend "I still don't know what the hell that was about."

Loved it, but I also enjoy unsettling movies. The slow pace allowed the themes to creep under the skin unnoticed so that by the end I was pretty shocked, for even hours after. That creates fun discussions with friends, whether you loved it or hated it, it allows people to be entertained and distracted for a few hours with something artistic and surreal and that should be embraced instead of vilified. I guarantee people who see it will not soon forget it, and the idea of a movie being good vs bad is not so clear cut when understanding certain viewers emotional outbursts to being unsettled by the film. It's shocking, disturbing, surreal, funny, sexy, beautiful, violent, and open to a wide audience with its stars and flashy plot. Even if some viewers are left "confused" or "disturbed" it's still easily the most different and refreshing film all year and that to me is the most you can ask for when paying money for entertainment. I'll probably pay to see it again when it comes out and I'll bring a few more friends along to share in the controversy and discussion.
