Entertaining. Fun. Having recently read VICTORIA, I was too much of an historian to believe the goodness of Abdul as played in the movie. But still very enjoyable.

Delightful if you're looking for a simple film and simple story with not a lot of depth. Abdul's character was one-dimensional, and the film lost its way once the evil family stepped in. Would have loved more scenes with the queen and Abdul to understand more of what he taught her, why she valued it so much, and what the friendship really did to influence the monarchy. Instead, the latter half of the film gave screen time to stars like Eddie Izzard without even using the family to give broader context to racial issues. Its mad-cap feel didn't help. But still, I enjoyed myself.
