Actor and director did a good job. The writers made Michael seem perfect, he was not.

The film leans heavily on the music, often feeling more like a concert—which, in IMAX, sounds phenomenal: rich, immersive, powerful. You’re constantly reminded why he’s a legend. When it ends, it plays less like a definitive portrait and more like a polished VH1 special—entertaining, nostalgic, and a little too careful around the truth.

As a fan who grew up watching Michael in the 90s, Jackson 5,: The American Dream, this movie left a lot to be desired. The makeup was disappointing. The portrayal of his personality fell flat. Janet being completely absent was bizarre. Toward the end he started to settle in, but honestly? I’ve seen better impersonators on 42nd St. in New York City. This felt more like Joe’s story than Michael’s. Glad I didn’t pay full price.

I enjoyed the Michael movie. The acting was incredibly accurate and believable. The cinematography was beautiful and very realistic for each time period. Michael showed us a more intimate look into Michael’s life and perspective. Watching Michael grow throughout the years from being scared of his father to becoming a man and choosing his own path despite what Joe wanted was touching. I also enjoyed how Michael always cared for humanity and nature. Despite his tumultuous childhood, he never lost hope in himself and the world around him.
