Not for everyone or even great, but makes me excited for what Fennel does next

I thought it was very unique and original hence why I would recommend it to others;however, it was a difficult movie to watch which is why I gave the film three stars only. I thought both Carrie Mulligan and Bo Burnham’s performances were compelling and I really enjoyed the very clever casting of Adam Brody, McLovin and the fellow from Veep. While the narrative made sense overall, there were some questions that I as a viewer would have liked answered such as the meaning of the different colored lines in the notebook and the genesis of Cassies club vigilantism(spur of the moment? Pre planned?)

The film was shot beautifully, it was bright, shocking, and stylistic. However, the facilitated tropes of dead young women, college campus sexual assault, and revenge felt contrived rather than edgy. Rather than exploring the salient question of why does the sexual assault and destruction of young women occur on multiple levels, how does temporality change scenarios, how do you negotiate a world that does not value all life? it stuck to lazy tropes of ways of dressing and too much alcohol. I felt this film could have been something but most certainly was not.

I thought it was a very well-written, beautiful-looking film. There were points where it was confusing on the motivation of the character which made me less focused on the story and more thinking of why she's doing certain things. I felt the ending where she dies was a bit lackluster because it felt built up for her as a character to be much smarter than that.
