It was a bit too long, slow moving, & depressing. Not something I would have paid to see.

It was good. The acting was excellent. It was a little too long.

Liked the story line and was surprised how the main character finally broke, then to see the cross appear in his hands was a nice finish. Too long, needs to be less fluff.

Martin Scorsese attempted to film a novel that many claim is un-filmable. Having read up on the novel, I agree this is true. The inherently reflective tone of the novel -- along with its constantly changing narrative structure -- makes filming the story an immense (if impossible) challenge. Scorsese did an admirable job in putting the novel to film, but as a film, it just doesn't work well.
