Deep, dark, slow burning film about religious persecution and sadism.

As a Christian myself this movie was very thought provoking. Here in the US we take for granted our religious freedoms. It is easy to have faith when it is unchallenged or only verbally challenged. But is the face of hard life and death challenges how strong is our faith then and how does it manifest for each of us?

Powerful movie! The acting was fantastic and the story fascinating. A tragic account of an historical event which doesn't promote or denounce any religion. The cinematography and costume and set design a delight.

Easily one of the best films I have seen in recent memory. Highly recommended.
