Daniel Day Lewis proves himself to be the best actor of his generation in the “Phantom Thread” which is a supremely well written and artistically crafted work of art. I can think of no other film like it. The musical score was beautifully interwoven with the dialogue and cinematography to authentically introduce us to an obsessively motivated clothier who raises his vocation to an art form even though it seems to limit his ability to express love or enjoy his success. He literally suffers for his work and reduces those dedicated people in his orbit to servants of his rigid vision....

Beautiful scenery, solid acting but some scenes are too long and drag the story. The plot is odd but intriguing. The ending was disappointing.

I'm a big PTA & Lesley Manville fan. The acting is top notch. There are masterful moments in the film, but the world was too insular; we don't really feel the significance or context of the Woodcock brand in the fashion world, other than a few fervent fans. We don't really get any of Alma's background either, which could help plant seeds for the end. I needed a bigger swing for the ending to feel substantial. The mushrooms felt like an afterthought. If we're going in that direction, let's go full-on MISERY. The film feels like it was made by someone who knows nothing about fashion.
