Stylish and occasionally charming, but the script is rough

boring

I'd recommend this movie to those who simply want to see representation on the screen, even though it's in service of a typical romantic drama that ticks all the boxes. The depiction of this idealized world of Harlem circa 1950-1960 is certainly somewhat refreshing and compelling, and I enjoyed how the story's working class milieu was in music, not only jazz, but the popular song of the time. Those and the representation are pluses. The minuses are due to the use of the same old romantic drama templates and tropes we've seen in countless other movies, both theatrical and made for TV/streaming.

I wasn’t able to get on the link for some reason. I had rsvp and I got in on time but I wasn’t able to get in. I’m sure it was a great movie.
