I think if you cut out some of the R rated material and targeted a PG13 rating, the story line would reach a larger audience.

The movie has a seemingly generic plot- girl is lonely in high school, my best friend is dating my brother, pining over the bad boy. However the incredibly sad back story about her father sets the tone for the movie as a whole. The lead (Nadine) struggles with a number of insecurities and honestly makes for a protagonist that isn't necessarily the most likable person. Her loneliness throughout the film is continuously undermined by her cynically blunt attitude. She ultimately makes for a pessimistic yet relatable lead with quick humor and self doubting troubles. However, the film's true poignancy is clearly through the family dynamic. A parent who splits authority among children, or children who find themselves closer to one parent can see this shown throughout the movie. Nadine struggles to break through her mother's disregard, and ultimately it seems like the movie ends with much more work to be done between the two. In actuality, the one real resolution comes between the two siblings, sharing similar home and adolescent sadness.

Nice movie about the angst of being a teenager. It was edgy and well acted. I was disappointed on how it ended - they kind of copped out by making everyone's problems miraclously disappear. Which was not realistic. Overall a good movie worth seeing though.

This is a good movie that has substance and humor. It isn't exceptional in anyway, neither is it bland. It's just good enough to be a fun pop corn muncher with some funny moments.
