Lots of movies are about how a couple gets somewhere: to the altar, to a baby, to a divorce, etc. I often wish that we could have more focus on the hard parts, on what happens after the chase. This movie delivers a bit on that desire, although I wish it delved a bit deeper into why the characters make the decisions they do along the way.

This is a perfectly charming story without extreme and exhausting emotional swings and it ends with a basically happy ending. The overall design style is engaging, from cars and 50s nightclubs through TV stage sets to home and outfits. Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha are terrific and the hints of story from all the supporting characters left me wanting more. The music caught my attention in the trailer and is beautiful throughout. Overall, it was a treat to watch and listen to.

It was so retro. It reminded me of watching a 70s romance complete with cheesy romantic score and plot twists. But what was so intriguing was how minimal race was in this story. I wish some of the relationships were better developed. But if you are looking to escape, this movie offers a simple love story.
