I found Boogie to be entertaining overall. I liked that it began and ended with Boogie’s parents’ story. I learned a lot about the Asian American experience. I wish the relationship story between Boogie and Eleanor had been more developed.

The script didn't fit the drama.

I was excited to see this film, but the final product seemed like a rough draft. There were too many familiar teeny sports film tropes and no real fresh take. Boogie talks about pressure, but it was contrived. No one was telling him not to be him, not to play basketball, not to date who he wanted, or go to the school he wanted. Everyone seemed supportive of him. Lack of money and his bad attitude were his worst antagonist. Also, Taylor Takahashi is attractive, but felt too green an actor for a lead role. The bright spots are in the confident performances of the supporting cast.
