Spotty acting. Jessie Usher (JJ Shaft) & love interest Alexandra Shipp (Sasha Arias) were both over acting to the point where I cringed, wondering why these scenes weren’t left on the cutting room floor. Story line was not very interesting. Someone is found dead, who did it & who cares? Fowl, lewd language and sexism, as one would expect from Shaft. Target audience: definitely young men under 30.

A few chuckles, here and there.

I will always love Samuel L. Jackson but I'm not feeling his replacement Jessie T. Usher. he's just not charismatic enough. Although I do know that following the footsteps of Samuel L. Jackson is a hard one, I do believe they could have found a stronger actor. Samuel L. Jackson brings it, like always and he pretty much carried the movie, but I would have enjoyed it a LOT more if it was JUST him

I quite enjoyed it. The comedic tone of the movies seemed like quite a departure from the Shaft I was familiar with. And while in some ways the beginning of the film seemed to be geared more towards a drama, it ended up being a fun comedy. I have never before been to a movie where people were so consistently laughing and enjoying themselves.
