The film was wonderful. Great script, directing, production design, acting, everything. Beautiful, powerful and moving.\r\rOne thing did disappointed me, not to do with the film but the screening experience. This is the third film streamed/screened through Nemer Fieger, the second Amazon Studios film, I’ve watched. The first, Radioactive, I was able to stream on my iPad and output to my projector. The second from a different distributor and now Uncle Frank I was not able to output to the projector. So, I was forced to watch them on my iPad. Not a good viewing experience on a small screen.

It is a very heart felt movie. It embodies the true essence of this time when being homosexual was not ok and came with many consequences. I thought it was great to also get views from another culture and country during this time. The characters were very likable and the acting was very good and didn’t feel fake or forced.

I liked the story & most of the characters. Of the main characters, I liked Frank the least. I thought at his age he should have been more accepting of himself, should have known better. I thought Walid & Beth were more mature. Frank was too hung up. Then I saw the dates on Sam's grave marker (1928-1944) and realized I was wrong. The film took place in 1973 (the year I came out, age 24), I had lost sight of Frank's having been born Christian in the conservative rural South 21 years earlier than me (Jewish, in NYC, with liberal parents). It was HIS story, not mine. Well done.

It was great for a good cry. The niece seemed only necessary to move the plot forward. For the last two thirds of the film, her presence seemed incidental. Some of the actors, especially Judy Greer, were criminally underused. But it was a big cast, so I get it. Overall though, very enjoyable.
