I like the message of the movie - and it is relatively short. Him signing with China seems unrealistic. He never meets them. We do not know the circumstances of why he feels rushed to not wait for other scholarship offers. He was supposed to play in he big game and signed before playing. Had he realized he was not as good as he thought he was? I missed the scene where he spoke with the fortune teller. Maybe that was important. He never really practiced basketball on screen much for someone who really loved it. I get the stuff about his loyalty to his family, etc but dramatized!

I liked certain parts of the movie. I could appreciate the Asian/Asian American born struggles. I definitely felt the New York & Hip-Hop energy. Pop Smoke seemed very natural & it's too bad we won't get to see how he would've turned out. The story didn't flow though.

I think Boogie was an interesting story. I like the plot and the struggle of family culture. Being AAPI, I can identify with that struggle. However, I think that it could have been more polished. The scenes didn't flow well or naturally.

So, I'm not a sports person--at all--but I liked how this film was a bit different from the typical, formulaic sports movie. I liked the Chinese cultural elements of the story. It's a world different from my own. \r\rThat said, I'm really not the target audience for this film. I didn't love it, but it was a fine way to spend a couple of hours.
