Great to see four awesome Asian-American actors leading a major film. Absolutely felt the representation! Yes to sex-confident women! Raunchy content tended to overshadow grounded, heartwarmth scenes which often made it hard to remember the main plot. Having lost three close friends due to drug use, the drug use in the movie felt excessive.

There are some genuinely funny, LOL moments in the film. I thought the train scene was unnecessary. Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu are absolutely fantastic.

Comedians performing skit comedy in exotic locales, tied together with an excuse plot - Joy Ride is funny, vulgar, and touching; but the three aspects work against each other in such a way that it never quite coheres as a film. Without more focus, it's difficult to recommend, especially with the awkwardness introduced by the explicit content.

As an Asian American and a feminist, I really wanted to love this movie. It was entertaining and had key unique comedic moments, but the characters could have been more nuanced and relatable. This teetered on the fine line between a successful over-the-top, hilarious comedy and being ridiculous. If you loved Bridesmaids, then I think you will probably enjoy this movie.
