I thought the acting was ok. What I enjoyed was how realistic the teen experience. I think it is also a necessary film that shows us Chinese Americans in a perspective that we do not commonly see in the media. It is raw! We need to see more Asian American films like this because it shows the viewer that many aspects of being an immigrant and the conflict of assimilation and honoring our roots. Boogie being a creep initially was pretty disgusting, and the fact that he still gets the girl shows a lack of respect for women, specifically black women. There is enough exploitation of black women.

The basketball scenes looked out of place and too scripted. The Asian back story was good. The music was good. The main character was a good actor. Would have liked to see what Boogie ended up doing with his career. If he went to China and made it to the NBA or broke the contract to go to school.

It is good but it perpetuates some of the black man bad but maybe black women o.k. as relationship partners narrative. I didn't love that aspect. I loved the Chinese language being in the movie, I think it was well acted but the script lacked maturity. It felt like a school play.

The story is a clash of cultures that not everybody will understand or identify with. The characters lack development to illustrate their actions or motivations exist within the story. There are some good authentic touches but many of the larger themes and issues are not fleshed out. It's ok to see a Chinese story but was a little disappointing.
