Moving story, well acted and great direction. Captured the mood of the time.

Acting was superb, and a sweet story. I really liked the film, but we had trouble with the streaming. It stopped and was 'buffering' several times, and when it did, we missed parts of the film, which makes my rating one star less.

An unexpectedly personal, often philosophical tale of family, and the criticism they can spout between each other when one of their flock is just a little, little bit different than the rest. Paul Bettany is the brightest personification of all that, with a gracious swagger and a restrained absentee father presence. One of his strongest performances, and a masterful, witty piece of work for Alan Ball.

A touch upon what is underneath acceptance and rejection, for any reason. Sometimes what we think we are supposed to feel or do gets in the way of we actually feel and believe. Sadly, the exact story still plays in real life too often today... as do many other related scenarios that result in a beloved family member's rejection.\rI do question why this is rated "R". Seems the rating is done by the 'father's' perspective. Maybe if the couple was white and straight, it would be PG 13? Rating of "R" reeks of prejudice. Suggest the MPAA watch this movie outside the role of the father.
