Really good movie subject but characters really didn't show any emotion except for Mark Ruffalo. Was he the only one that researched his character?

Spotlight was a suspenseful, excellent story about an important issue that happened in my city of Boston, but revealed a worldwide disease in the Catholic Church. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the cast was excellent.
