A refreshing take on the boy meets girl-boy loses girl-boy gets girl tale. The two leads are both charming and gorgeous. Tessa even looks great with a head full of pink foam curlers! The sound track is full of nostalgic gems that make you wanna get up and dance or sing-a-long with. There are threads of a La La Land romance including the jazz music angle, but the story has a much sweeter resolution. It was so nice to see African Americans living "normal" lives without having to deal with drugs, gangs and the police. Loved it!

It was a very true to life poignant love story

I probably would have liked it as a silent movie, since I could still figure it out despite catching only about every 28th word of the dialog...
