I found the human characters lacked motivation. They didn't seem interesting. -The eco-terrorists are never mentioned after the lady scientist runs away.-I'm not sure if Monarch was an independent entity or if it was folded under the government. I took a several hour long nap and I nodded off a little during the movie where Godzilla was screaming.

Story was lacking. Monsters were cool. Left half way through.

Great for fans of a lot visual noise and loud sound effects. People wanting interesting characters, well-written dialogue, and well-realized fight scenes that employ wide shots instead of senses-assaulting "WTF is going on" tight shots might want to give this one a pass. Godzilla 2014 wasn't a masterpiece but it got the sense scale of the kaiju correct and the fights were well staged.

Honestly, if you can get past the dumb story and ludicrous characters, you could enjoy this movie. My screening was so dark, and everything on screen was dim. The monsters look impressive, but are shot very poorly and are surrounded by rain, darkness, storms, and shaky cam film-making. Was so looking forward to this movie, and was really disappointed.
