The R-rating and unflinching violence stay true to the novel’s darkness, but some of the book’s slow psychological unraveling and haunting ambiguity are lost in favor of cinematic pacing and a more definitive ending. Overall, it’s a faithful yet streamlined adaptation—deeply affecting, though not as introspective as the source material.
