I think this move was exactly what I expected It to be, high-energy, classic over-the-top sci-fi action movie. The CGI and special effects were amazing, and I really enjoyed the detail in all of those pieces. The worst part of the movie was Jake Lacy's character (the Wyden brother). Obviously, his role was to play the joker/break the mood kind of guy but It just didn't fit for me.

The special FX were great, but the characters, especially the bad guys were not. The Rock did his best acting to a cgi ape, but felt he phoned it in throughout most of the movie. I personally would like to have seen more "Rampaging" throughout the movie. The movie also couldn't distinguish a tone. It felt it wanted to take itself very serious but had comically bad bad guys.

Had zero expectations with the film, but its surprising heart actually made this big, silly film fun to watch. And that nearly always visible Rampage arcade cabinet was a good reminder to just sit back and enjoy

Someday this film will make a good drinking game. But it wasn't a great story (they made it unnecessarily complicated), and there was too much misuse of science, and somehow the Rock was invincible (he shrugged off a gunshot to his gut, and even after the chaos was over he didn't seek medical attention). The ending was also really cliche and unsurprising - it was upsetting in its predictability
