For a modern day teenage romance, it was pretty decent. I liked Henry’s character. It was nice to see a male character in a love story that wasn’t a total jerk.

dialogue slow and acting bland and forced

Chemical Hearts is a film constructed out of cliches and shallow and pretentious metaphors much like most teen dramas nowadays, but it treats its characters and its story with just enough tender care that it ultimately works. Reinhart and Abrams are very good, particularly the former, and they share excellent chemistry. You are with them through the whole film, even if their journey is plagued with predictable tropes and a runtime that feels longer than it is. They are very much the heart and soul of the film and are part of what made it work for me.

I enjoyed the film's handling of grief, the soundtrack, and the pacing of the film. However, I didn't feel there was much chemistry between the leads, the side characters felt like props, and the script did not feel authentic to a modern teenager's experience (Hustler magazines, "thotty", and talking about being a teenager while you still are one).\rIn terms of specific moments, Henry's anger at Grace when he learns she is living in Dom's room felt unmotivated and mean. Also, the voice over felt overused and it took away from the drama for me.
