Southpaw starts off strong than following one of the dumbest deaths in the history of the film turns dumb and stays dumb. Smart, talented people being defeated by dumb material. Jake Gyllenhaal is good but he still can't make this movie good. If you want to see it I recommend seeing on dvd/Netflix.

Really good acting. Loved the intensity of the relational drama. 2/3 of movie was intensely heavy with only 1/3 feel good. Found parts of it slow especially in about the midpoint. Would have waited to rent it via Redbox if I had to pay to see it. I told a friend on the phone immediately after the movie, "It was good." Not "Wow."

ACTING IS fine. story? saw it all coming before it happened on screen.

Too slow. Cinematography was choppy. Final boxing scene was too blurred and confusing. Difficult to focus on which boxer was doing what in the cloae-ups.
