It was entertaining for those who prefer a lot of drama and a somber mood. For those who like history it gives you gritty dirty side of life in the south during that era. If you want to catch a glimpse of history it is worth your time.

MM does a great job of acting, as always. The movie seems long and the story depends too much on historical subtitles. I still enjoyed the movie.

Very slow and boring movie

Free State of Jones details the struggles of black Americans for true freedom during and after the Civil War. It is good at showing these facts but loses focus trying to show how little changed 75+ years after gaining freedom.
