Great story about a timid woman who became a powerful woman

A woman at the fringes of organized crime finds her life and family torn apart by forces outside of her control or understanding. There's tension drawn from both the slow building of the action and the fact that the viewer is kept in Jean's position of knowing very little about the events and characters spiraling around her. The direction is assured enough to keep us invested in what is at first a blank slate character a minimal plot. By the end, the neo-noir ramps up as Jean's attempts to assert herself just draw her deeper into the chaos.

Well written, maintained focus, great story of transformation
