Sound of Metal brings together a story of loss, learning, and acceptance. We watch Rueben find his way to a deaf sobriety house where he attempts to learn how to accept himself. The secondary character of this movie is sound! Cars whizzing by, the wind, distant chattering. Suddenly they are gone and you couldn’t feel more alone. The sound professionals give us insight into what it might be like to be a deaf person. While we can never know, we get a glimpse by taking the journey with Ruben. The film teaches us that being deaf is not a handicap.

Brilliant little story that tells us more about the person and how people can change.

At the 1 hour mark, I saw the movie still had another hour. I was skeptical there was enough left to keep my interest for another hour. I was wrong. Well done!
