Over all, not knowing about the 1st version, and even finding out it was based on a true story, I didnt like the bad , deadbeat, con artist, black dad stereotype highlighted in the movie, as well as the black guy with no social skills, on probation highlight either. A vast majorityof us had 2 parent homes, and didnt have fathers with extensive knowledge of the prison system. It started off badly, with the 1st scene, 0then going back 6 months. It should have started at the beginning. That kind of openning would have been better suited for an action movie, or some sort of serious surprise at the er. That was just wasted editing. Over all, ignoring the usual insensitive stereotypes, and the fact that most of the actors never come across as New Yorkers, it was funny at times, and enjoyable to watch
