It was simply a very violent movie with an overused theme

long build up to what's already known in the trailer. unfortunate mexican-american stereotype timing. some important kills not shown. silly dialog. too similar to Death Wish, Taken, Salt, and The Punisher among others

I thought that overall the movie was alright. Nothing worth seeing on opening night but a good watch the following week during a matinee showing. What was a great draw were the action scenes as they appeared to be extremely realistic. You felt every bullet wound, every bone crunch and every punch throughout the movie which kept me engaged. The dialogue could've been improved and the story felt predictable and thin at times, however, I wasn't there to be challenged by a deep film. I was there to be entertained and Peppermint mostly delivered.

The action scenes were good, but there were a lot of plot holes in the story. For example, how exactly did she learn to use military-grade weapons or how to take care of her injuries? How did the dirty cop even get involved with the gang to begin with? What was the point of helping her escape at the end of the movie when her whole life's purpose was just to seek revenge? There wasn't a lot of dialogue, which I think also contributed to the plot holes.I think what I disliked the most about this movie was that it only focused on the ugliness that exists in life. Her family was killed, and her entire life completely stopped and became only about seeking revenge. Yes, she was able to get rid of a lot of very bad people, but from that point forward, her life doesn't have a purpose any more. I understand this was supposed to be one of those fight back kind of movies, but overall there weren't any redeeming qualities shown through this story. I expected more from a Jennifer Garner movie.
