The filters used to make this seem grittier were done very well. You could tell the love and relationships between all the characters very well. I'd rate a 5 if the story between Forest Whitaker and Jake Gyllenhaal had been flushed out a bit more. This particular story line was reminiscent of 'Million Dollar Baby'. Needed time to flush out this secondary story.

Very good and very intense

Good overall. Worth seeing. Somewhat predictable.

Southpaw is a good production if you like underdog/turnaround movies combined with some touchy parenthood story. It felt very often like a Rocky movie. However, the movie was also very much focused on the soundtrack. Despite the fact that the story is more or less predictable, I have to admit that it got me sooner or later emotionally hooked. I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars
