A beautiful and interesting film that tackles such an overlooked topic. Pwerful acting and a fantastic screenplay. The last 5 minutes are pure gold. A devastating film about that which moves us to the edge of our senses: passion, and what it entails when time comes for us to face our nature without it.

Sound of Metal is an engaging film that gives the viewer a glimpse into the world of the deaf. I really enjoyed the sound editing, using extended spaces of muffled sounds and talking and then long stretches of silence, all the time illuminating what Ruben was experiencing. Riz was perfectly cast as Ruben.

I enjoyed Ruben's character....watching him grow into himself. It took him a long time, but I think he ultimately figured out that other people's opinions, especially those who care about you are really important to consider. \r\rI was frustrated with Lou's character in that she never voiced what she was feeling....she usually capitulated to what Ruben said or wanted. The only time she stood her ground was when she left him at the school of the deaf to heal and learn to sign.\r\rThe cinematography was great as well as the art direction.\r\rI liked that the story wasn't totally predictable.

I loved the raw emotion depicted in Ruben's initial struggle to deal with his deafness and how Joe worked to help him adapt to a new life. In a perfect world Ruben's deafness would be fixed, yet in our imperfect world he had to learn a much more difficult and poignant lesson of acceptance. His ultimate victory over addiction, his understanding of the stillness and his unspoken future were the subtle signs of God working anonymously in Ruben's life.
