I realize it's a fantasy, but what started out to be a cute story ended up being so outlandishly unlikely and unreal, that not even the kids seemed to be convinced of what was happening. Plus I thought the dragons were far too scary for this audience...even though no one was ever killed throughout the movie.

It's wonderfully made, though veteran cinematographer Bill Pope's work was often overlit and flat (the Roger Deakins touch from the original is missed). The performances are fun (the lead actor - forgotten his name - really did feel like he captured the same feel as the animated Hiccup) and the dragons are flawless, but all this money and talent could have been put towards something original.
