6/10 - promising young adult novel adaptation explores lots of worthy themes but never manages to truly lift off the ground.

It was slow to start but eventually the movie picked up. I appreciate an ending that wasn't so cliché "boy get girl at the end" . I don't see myself going to the theater to catch this film but it's a good end the week with wine and popcorn on the couch kimd of movie

(Disclaimer: I am a veteran high school English teacher who has seen and read enough teen angst to last me a lifetime and I know that I am not the target audience.)\r\rThere was nothing egregiously bad about this film, I just didn't find it to be as engaging as some "coming-of-age" movies and books I've experienced. There wasn't much chemistry (no pun intended) between the two leads and much of the dialogue teetered on the edge of cliche. I found myself autocompleting sentences during the last 40 minutes just to see how close I could get to the written script; I wasn't off by much.

It might have been a good movie, but I got so confused. The first 40 minutes of the movie kept buffing and timing out, when I finally got it to work I was totally lost about what was going on in the movie.
