Grittiness and realism defined but not in a tacky way. In a heartbreaking inspirational story that unlike other true event films doesn't read you the events like a text book but delves into the psyche of these characters to the point when you find out what happens to them breaks you emotionally. Especially the character of William O'Neal. 10/10 take on a morally grey character in such vital time.

I absolutely loved it. Had a very The Departed meets Malcolm X feel to it. Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are two of the best, most versatile actors working today and they bring it here, especially Kaluuya. I definitely liked that it didn’t shy away from the ugly sides of Hampton and the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther party while telling the story

It was a well written and beautifully acted film about a period in the history of this country that is still continuing to this day. A very important story that needed to be told as well as countless other stories about the Black Panthers and Black liberation movements and COINTELPRO and other government entities assigned to decapitate them from within to prevent any unity for Black upliftment.
