Dialogue was very weak. Plot didn't pick up until the end of the movie. Visual effects were all that carried this movie.

The leading actors acted & looked like children (actually I thought I was attending a teen movie when they first appeared on screen because they looked & acted like they were 13 or 14). The first scene with them on the beach set the tone for their acting, i.e., a randy teen male trying to get into pouty-pissed -off teen female panties. Honestly, I couldn't take them seriously no matter how many action scenes they were in..they kept coming across as kids playing at being action heros (it worked in Spy Kid, but unfortunately not here). Their acting sucked. Their on screen chemistry sucked. The plot was great & I liked the sci-fi effects. Whomever decided to cast these two teen like actors in the lead roles made a terrible mistake. Their acting took a lot away from what could have been a block buster.
