This film is very thoughtful and may open up a line of communication for those still in the closet with their families. The acting was superb. I loved the relationship she had with her Uncle Frank, and I loved her acceptance of his lifestyle. With it being set in 1973, I could understand exactly what they were going through as that was the time frame I was realizing my true self, yet I couldn't announce it to the world, due to it's illegality. We've come a long way, baby.

Uncle Frank was well-written and the acting was excellent, especially Paul Bettany and Peter Macdissi. I definitely enjoyed it, but I also felt like it wasn't terribly original. That may partially be the era in which it was set. The fight for LGBTQIA rights has become so much more complex since 1973, and as accurate as the portrayal seems for that time, it also made it feel somewhat quaint. I wasn't sure how I felt about using Frank's niece as a device to tell his story. Sophia Lillis felt underused. However, the strong performances made the movie for me and I thought it was worth seeing.
