If an extra half-star was available, I'd be at 3&1/2. What I call a very impressionistic biopic. I love Rosamund Pike and I'd watch her in anything. She did not disappoint. I didn't know the filmmaker behind Persepolis was the director, she seems to have brought her unique storytelling sensibilities and visualizations of the internal monologues and events in her life.

My opinion of this movie is complicated. The story of Marie Curie's life is interesting; Ms. Pike's acting is superb, as is that of the supporting cast; and the sets are well done; however, this movie has a point of view, but I am not quite sure what it is--perhaps that is the point. The flashbacks and the flash aheads make the story a bit hard to follow and some of the imagery is out there, although some is breath-taking (the dancers). I could have done without the dream scene after Pierre died. I am glad I saw it, but I don't think this movie is going to have a lot of general appeal.

Fascinating story, beautifully shot, great performances, but slow moving, not very engaging and often depressing.
