Gripping, moving, well-acted and crafted. Difficult to watch the subject matter at times, but a very necessary story to tell. Revealing about how the 'good guys' aren't necessarily so. Thank you to STX and BBC Films, to Jodie Foster and the most talented Tahar Rahim who portrayed the title character, 'The Mauritanian'. Thank you, too, to the underdogs, those who do more with fewer resources, who fight for all human rights.

Very interesting true story brought to life on film. Great list of well known actors as well.

A movie that scrapes right through the veneer of what we know of Guantanamo, what the United States Government wants us to believe about Guantanamo and its prisoners. The Mauritanian brings humanity to the prisoners and the jailers at Guantanamo and shows what can happen when people who believe in the rule of law and persist in fighting for the truth prevail, albeit at great cost. Exposes the underbelly of secret laws and enforcement in the wake of 9-11. Solid, believable performances by a great cast, particularly Tahar Rahim in a harrowing role. As always, Jodie Foster's and Benedict Cumberbatch's performances were transcendent. Intelligently written with deft handling of violent material.
