This is a movie made for (and possibly by?) straight, white, slightly angsty, very horny, teenage males. Also, straight ripping off the Masai people to create the (now extra sparkly white!) Pearl aliens was disgusting and sad.

Great concept, poorly executed...Waste of 3D...Cheesy acting with best part being Rhianna's constantly-changing performance. Some decent special effects, but space battle scenes a bit overwhelming with too much going on at once...Reminded me of a Disney movie geared towards pre-teen audiences, like High School Musical or the like.

The movie Valerian has great female actresses and creatures, is visually amazing, is fast paced and is a fresh movie minus the bad acting of its' lead actor, Valerian. The lead actresses and creatures are entertaining. Laureline is the main female lead, is strong, funny and is a good role model. Also, Bubble is a futuristic character; she is creative, energetic and is fun to watch. Then, the other creatures are unique and have a different look compared to other science-fiction movies and make you want to see what's next...The movies special effects in most of the scenes are top notch. Visually it is cool to watch the characters run through the movie. The background scenes and concepts are colorful and imaginative. At some points, in space, it was hard though to focus on some of the vessels. Although overall, great job!Where the movie is lacking is in the main lead's role, Valerian. It's a shame, because the casting/acting could of been done better. This surfer-type personality did not work. You would rather see a Han Solo-type or Star Lord (Star War and Guardians of the Galaxy) self confident character. The character Valerian tried with some humor and to act tough but just did not cut it.

The visual effects were amazing but everything else about the movie not so much. I wanted to like the movie because I have liked Luc Besson's earlier movies. I hope to give this one another chance when it comes out on DVD.
