Valerian was visually stunning but that's about it. It was unnecessiarily long and boring. The script was terrible and the plot entirely predictable. The main characters had zero chemistry together and were too young to be believable.

Amazing visual effects and overall good story plot.The film has good moments and rather good action sequences.The lead actor does not present a consistent role lacking a deeper motivation and charisma.The lead actress try hard to make the spectator care about the relation between the two main characters, but it seems that she is working alone to achieve this goal.Most of the characters in the movie are very shallow, not able to present further motivation or make you believe they could actually exist. A good exception for this is Bubble, who besides appearing for a very short part of the movie presents its background story and helps the main plot to advance.The villain is very limited. His role can be summarized in 1 or 2 lines, since by his own words he is just a soldier. His actions echo those of many other villains and do not bring any novelty to the story.Also, although the movie points that Alfa almost anything could lead to a diplomatic incident in Alfa the actions of the main character do not seem to have any consequence, as he destroys many parts of the city in his pursuit for the kidnapped commander and slays several guards and an Emperor of one of the alien civilizations without even caring.Another positive highlight to the movie is the presence of the three small aliens (pigeons) that give a comic tone to the scenes and help the plot to advance in a good and fast way.One of the best sequences of the movie is the one in the virtual market that has a good pace and also is visually very interesting.

It's a nice syfy movie for kids.

3 Stars. Special effects were good, but the plot itself was slow moving to me. I wasn't able to connect with it for some reason. Although the relationship between the 2 main characters was supposed to be romantic,I never saw real connection at all. Acting not the best.
