While I like the storyline, it was too slow and dragged out. It took too long to get to the point. Definitely felt like an ET remake

It really depends on who’s asking. For most people, I wouldn’t recommend it—you can spend your time and money on something more rewarding. While it starts with a premise that hints at something deeper, it quickly leans into a lighter, good-natured tone and ends up feeling long and increasingly insubstantial. There are too many clichés and familiar beats, and the constant nods to films like E.T., 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Martian feel more like a shortcut to keep things entertaining than a way to build something truly original or thought-provoking.

Feels like a less sophisticated rehash of 'Arrival'. Premise is interesting but is constantly undercut with interjections of cringe science-is-le-heccin-epic-lmao humour - I went into the movie completely blind but I probably wouldn't have gone had I known it was based on a book by the same author as The Martian. Ryan Gosling's performance was solid, but that's a baseline expectation. Visuals were impressive, but that's a baseline expectation.
